book hunter

Wayne Shaw is a book hunter.  He was also on the 1966 Grey Cup championship team with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  He always has something to say about politicians, lawyers, illiteracy, retired people, computers, kids, society, and of course, books.

Sailor Dan asked me for some change, so I reached into my pocket and picked out a few coins.

He offered to me a drawing of a ship for $20.  I said if I had $20, I would get one.

I asked him for a portrait, one artist to another.  He gave me one.  I reached into my pocket and found the rest of the coins.

The New York Times has a powerful story published in their multimedia section, with very strong photography by Chip Litherland. Watch it here.

Mazomanie » 27 Mar. 2008

Here are a couple of frames from the Walking Iron bed and breakfast that we stayed a night at in Mazomanie, Wisconsin.

It was a nice house filled with antiques and a much needed jacuzzi and comfy king-size bed that felt great after driving 12 hours from Hamilton. We were lucky this place was exactly half-way to Winnipeg!
