I haven’t been taking too many photos since the rodeo. I’ve been concentrating on working and making money so that I can free up some time for picture taking. It’s also giving me time to just look and think about what I am seeing here. There is so much to Edmonton, I am glad to be here.
One thing I wanted to write up is a list of what ‘the essentials’ are when you pick up and move across the country. When moving with two carry-ons, two checked bags, and ship two separate parcels… What goes in them? Well, for me of course it’s books.
This is my list of essential books to take across the country so that I can continue my learning process:
(Their order is simply as I see them on the bookshelf)
Magnum Stories, Magnum
WAR, VII
Inferno, James Nachtwey
Shooting Under Fire, Peter Howe
Things as they are, World Press Photo
Robert Capa at work, ICP (new addition to my collection since the Magnum workshop)
The Photographer’s Eye, MOMA
Vietnam Inc., Philip Jones Griffiths
Portraits, Richard Avedon
My America, Christopher Morris
Martin Parr, Val Williams
Don McCullin
On Being a Photographer, David Hurn
There are more than that, but these are the ones that have to be on my bookshelf wherever I may be.
